Established history of Manchester United


The club was formed in 1878 as Newton Heath Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Football Club (Newton Heath LYR FC) by railway workers in Newton Heath. They played on a small field on North Road, close to Manchester Piccadilly railway station for fifteen years, before moving to Bank Street in the nearby town of Clayton in 1893. Tim has been a member of the Football League the previous year and began to sever its links with the train station, to become an independent company, appoint a secretary and remove the last name "LYR" so to Newton Heath FC alone.


But in 1902, the club neared bankruptcy, with debts of more than £ 2,500 and even their Bank Street ground was closed. Stafford refused the offer and instead he offered Davies to invest money on football clubs as well as chairman of Newton Heath FC.



The offer was accepted and safe from bankruptcy Newton Heath. After that they held a meeting to change the name of the club to mark the beginning of the rise of the club. The name 'Manchester Central' and 'Manchester Celtic' sticking it to be a strong candidate new name before Louis Rocca, a young Italian immigrant, said, "Gentlemen, why do not we use the name of Manchester United?" Rocca proposed name is approved and officially into use on 26 April 1902. Davies the new chairman, also decided to change the team colors from green to red and white gold as the color of Manchester United.
